Jakarta (ANTARA) - Coordinating Minister for Food Zulkifli Hasan has offered investment opportunities to the business sector through several strategic programs aimed at strengthening food security while boosting national economic growth.

"The business sector needs to become a strategic partner in strengthening supply chains, distribution, processing, and increasing the added value of the food sector from upstream to downstream," Hasan said in a statement received here on Wednesday.

The minister made the remarks while attending the 35th National Working and Consultation Meeting of the Indonesian Employers Association (Apindo) in Makassar on Tuesday (Aug 4).

According to him, close collaboration between the government and the business community is essential to ensure that national strategic programs not only function as public policies but also create investment opportunities, generate employment, and increase the added value of the food sector.

He highlighted several priority programs that offer opportunities for private-sector participation, namely the Red and White Village Cooperatives (KDMP), the Integrated Modern Fishermen Village Zones (KNMP), and Waste-to-Energy Power Plant (PSEL) development.

"The KDMP program is designed to serve as a village economic hub connecting farmers, cooperatives, local businesses, and broader markets," he said.

More than 30,000 village cooperatives have been established across Indonesia and are expected to become centers for food distribution, agricultural produce procurement, and local economic development.

In the maritime sector, the government is also developing Integrated Modern Fishermen Village Areas (KNMP) in several coastal regions using an integrated upstream-to-downstream approach.

Hasan said the initiative offers investment opportunities in cold storage facilities, logistics, seafood processing, and fisheries product marketing to enable fishers to obtain greater added value and stronger bargaining power.

The government is targeting the development of 1,386 KNMP sites in 2026 as part of its national priority programs.

Furthermore, Hasan noted that the government is accelerating 33 Waste-to-Energy (PSEL) projects to improve waste management and generate sustainable energy, targeting a reduction in daily waste accumulation of up to 33,000 tons by 2029.
