Indonesia, Albania aim to implement worker agreement by year-end - ANTARA News Jawa Timur
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The governments of Indonesia and Albania signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on the placement and protection of migrant workers here on Thursday, with implementation expected by the end of 2026.
Albanian Minister of Economy and Innovation Delina Ibrahimaj expressed optimism that the partnership will be put into action through follow-up technical agreements and business forums beginning this autumn.
"I really hope that, following this memorandum, the Minister (Minister for the Protection of Indonesian Migrant Workers Mukhtarudin) will be able to visit Albania so that we can follow up on the memorandum," she remarked.
"And as soon as this autumn, I hope we will be able to operationalize it through a business forum and also a technical agreement," she added.
Ibrahimaj emphasized that the pact would enable Indonesians to work in Albania in a safe, regulated, and ethical manner, while safeguarding the interests of both migrant workers and the Albanian business community.
She noted that the MoU reflects the significant economic potential of bilateral ties as well as the strong political commitment of both governments to foster closer cooperation.
The agreement stems from a 2024 visit to Albania by Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto, who was serving as defense minister at the time.
During the visit, he met with Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama and President Bajram Begaj.
Ibrahimaj also expressed hope that the memorandum would pave the way for new opportunities to strengthen diplomatic and economic relations between the two countries.
"I'm very happy that we have reached this signing, and I'm confident that Albania's demand for skilled workers will be met through the continued collaboration between our two countries," she concluded.
